New Information: First the Website, Now the New Office Space

Sources of TWN's retract information on this story -- see link.
Patrick Fitzgerald's intermediaries denied that there was any significance to the establishment of a new website, minimalist as it is, for the Office of the Special Counsel which is investigating the "outing" of Valerie Plame Wilson's covert CIA responsibilities to the media.
Fitzgerald's people said that the investigation coming to a close and the website going up was just coincidence.
Well, news has just reached TWN that Patrick Fitzgerald is expanding not only into a new website -- but also into more office space.
Fitzgerald's office is at 1400 New York Avenue, NW, 9th Floor in Washington.
What I have learned is that the Office of the Special Counsel has signed a lease this week for expanded office space across the street at 1401 New York Avenue, NW.
Another coincidence? More office space needed to shut down the operation?
I think not. Fitzgerald's operation is expanding.

Steve- get well, man.
Maybe the chief judge agreed to grant an extension and Fitzgerald may need more lawyers thus more office space to help w/ the niger investigation as rumored, .....here is hoping it is all true.
Of course Fitzgerald needs more space for the Plamegate Scandal.
He has a lot of work to do...
and we just saw Steve hovering on the most influential news program on TV : the Daily Show ! Congrats -- many many important people were informed.
Great news! Maybe the forged Niger documents along with other treasonous stuff will get a good examination by Fitzgerald.
Thanks Steve for the speedy reporting!
it'll take him the rest of bush's second term just to indict all the major criminals. he might as well buy a building, not rent one.
A couple of questions:
1. If indictments are issued, will Fitzpatrick be leading the prosecution team(s)?
2. If trials are needed, will they take place in the District?
I think the answers to both questions is, "yes." If so, Fitzpatrick is going to need a lot of office space for quite a while.
Mostly I make like a mouse here but I've been around a while. I'd hate to see you make the mistake of thinking because nothing is immediately obvious that you can ignore caution. Take care of yourself and don't push the bod for a bit. And enjoy the attention. Celebrity has to be good for something.
That web site not only is minimalist, but unattractive as hell.
This is my take on it. The web page was Fitz's first offensive move in response to the impending smear campaign after the indictments come. As we see, it's already started, but seems to be failing. He issues sealed indictments so that those involved have a last chance to plea, probably knowing they wouldn't, he's leased more office space because now he's going for the whole enchilada. Perhaps part of a deal would have been coming clean on the lies and leaving it up to Congress and the American people to sort it out. Rove and Libby implicate Bush and Cheney in fabricating the information about the build up to war. Rove and Libby say no so Fitz says, "okay, I'll do it." Perhaps?
When Steve was on To The Point (with Col. Wilkerson among others), one of the guests referred to the CIA investigation as The Plame Affair, which had a very classy ring to it--and differentiated it from the scores of "gates" which have been talked about ever since Watergate.
William Safire worked very hard to name every little imbroglio, such as the problem with Billy Carter (Billygate), a "gate," in order to lessen the impact of Watergate and to spread the idea among the public that every politician, every administration, every party had its X-gate.
Plus, Ms. Wilson is a very classy looking lady, so naming it The Plame Affair seems simply better.
This is like going through unending foreplay. For others this news must feel like a further turn of the screws...
I think I was at that Starbucks, when I was visiting Washington, D.C. as an outsider.
Tell me I'm wrong. I feel Rove slipping away.
fwiw, Steve was actually heard to speak and was given the last word on The Daily Show. Way to go !
A.Patriot has a good theory above, no doubt there could be more indictments on the way. One thing to keep in mind is the hubris that the Bush regime in known for, they are going to fight harder than most might imagine, shameless tards they are.
Thanks Steve for the great work!!!!! Get well, rest up because we need you.
nowar: You're wrong. Get some sleep.
If the investigation was actually winding down, would the guy be getting ready to move back to Chicago full time again?
The fact is that Fitzgerald is a merciless amateurish attention hound, and i'm leaning towards "He'll indict for minor charges"

BINGO I agree 100% with your theories. Would like to add a little bit more regarding the possibility of sealed indictments: yes, I believe he has sealed indictments, and got them for the protection of the entire investigation. He knew the repubs would come at him HARD, so he got some sealed indictments to use as a crucifix to a vampire. Any repubs threaten to shitcan his investigation, he simply waives the sealed indictments and threatens to open them up on the Daily Show. Kinda like Indiana Jones using his torch to keep all those snakes away from him and the chick.
I notice there is a Cellular One store on the ground floor of that building. Hope Fitzgerald has good phone security....
The fact is that Fitzgerald is a merciless amateurish attention hound
That would explain why his office has been leaking so shamelessly all along.
What on Earth are you talking about? Or is it some other planet?
"Amateurish," oh that is priceless.
Tell that to Former Governor Ryan. Or, heck, the entire Chicago GOP machine.
Thanks for the update- no if he was wrapping up- he would not need bigger space....and I imagine he is committed to seeing this through- he has stuck with it this long...Hope you are felling better soon- thanks for keeping at this Clemons we need you well..take care...

Ahhhh, I see another Hannity listener has joined our broadcast...
Right across the street from 1400 NY Ave is the office building that now houses other DOJ offices. I used to to searches on the Foreign Agent Registration Act databases that are maintained in the office at 1401. I think there are some private sector offices in 1401 but it is mostly government already.
I found the real-estate bit interesting, and speculate in my latest blog post, Fitzmas, a true American holiday, that it may form the basis of a Fitzmas tradition. </blogwhore>
MERRY FITZMAS, folks!! Here's the good news, it seems the goal is to indict the cabal of violation of Wilson's civil rights. After all the Rovian dirty tricks and malicious character assasination, the Prize is indeed priceless, go to this site:
http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2005/10/aides_to_be_ind.html
Although most press accounts emphasized that Fitzgerald was likely to concentrate on attempts by Libby Rove and others to cover-up wrongdoing by means of perjury before the grand jury, lying to federal officials, conspiring to obstruct justice, etc. But federal law enforcement officials told this reporter that Fitzgerald was likely to charge the people indicted with violating Joe Wilson's civil rights, smearing his name in an attempt to destroy his ability to earn a living in Washington as a consultant.
The civil rights charge is said to include "the conspiracy was committed using U.S. government offices, buildings, personnel and funds," one federal law enforcement official said.
Other charges could include possible violations of U.S. espionage laws, including the mishandling of U.S. classified information, these sources said.
That Vice President Cheney is at the center of the controversy comes is no surprise. Last Friday, Fitzgerald investigators were talking to Cheney's attorneys, and detailied questionaires, designed to pin down in meticulous sequence what Cheney knew, when he knew it, and what he told his aides,, were delivered to the White House on Monday, these sources said.
The probe is far from being at an end. According to this reporter's sources, Fitzgerald approached the judge in charge of the case and asked that a new grand jury be empaneled. The old grand jury, which has been sitting for two years, will expire on October 28.
Thanks to a letter of February, 2004 which Fitzgerald asked for and obtained expaneed authority, the Special Prosecutor is now in possession of an Italian parliament nvestigationi into the forged Niger documents alleging Iraq's interest in purchasing Niger uranium, sources said.
They said that Fitzgerald is looking into such individuals as former CIA agent, Duane Claridge, military consultant to the Iraqi National Congress, Gen. Wayne Downing, another military consultant for INC, and Francis Brooke, head of INC's Washingfton office in an effort to determine if they played any role in the forgeriese or their dissiemination. Also iIncluded in this group is long-time neoconservative Michael Ledeen, these federal sources said.
Haven't been writing much about Plamegate on The Broad View. Since you and others have done such a great great job  there hardly seemed any point in adding one more blogvoice.
But...I felt compelled to pick this up. And to wish you well at the same time.

President Bush: No Pardons for Treason
Let the investigations uncover the truth
Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald is moving towards indictments in the case of who disclosed the identity of Valerie Plame, a CIA covert operative working to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction. This case reaches into the highest levels of the White House; Senior Advisor Karl Rove, Vice Presidential Chief of Staff Scooter Libby, and Vice President Cheney himself have been repeatedly questioned by the special prosecutor.
President Bush, who has already broken his public promise to fire anyone involved in the leak, is probably considering pardoning those involved before any trial, just as his father did more than a decade ago in pardoning six high-level officials who broke the law in providing arms to Iran and the Nicaraguan contras...
Far from over! A new grand jury be empaneled to investigate Iraq WMD forgeries and their dissemination!!! Finally, Fitz IS the Great White Hope of American Integrity. What should we expect for Fitzmas 2006??? Hurrah!
PS. On the other hand, I fear for Fitzgerald's life...Really, Cheney and Dr Strangelove are capable of it.:(
Ruppert: bite us all.
The thing I like most about Fitz is that he knows how to keep his mouth shut and do his job. By doing his job, he has legitimized the idea of removing the Bush Administration, or at least force a major bipartisan overhaul of it.
By maintaining his silence, he has exposed the fallacy of "24 hour News". I wonder how much these company welfare recipients have spent chasing Mailman Fitz, who has no check for them?
I'm not exaggerating...I'm tearing up. That would explain his expanded office space. Instead of that shameful whitewash Bush comissioned, we are finally seeing the light of day, getting to the bottom of that dirty cesspit where all the propaganda and fake intelligence are spewed to con us into war. Someone, finally, in the government, with the guts (unlike the craven Dems and good soldiers McCain and Powell) to speak truth to Power and level with the American people. If the sources are right about the new probe, I've been cynical for so long, I'm stunned at this burst of clarity and light. Fitzgerald (neither Republican nor Dem, but an honest American first) for President 2008!
I hope you are feeling better this morning, for you and for us. We need your voice.
Since when did perjury become a "minor" charge? No matter how you slice it, it still comes out a felony. The Republicants have lived so long in a heady ether of lies, I think they've forgotten what the truth really looks like. There are other ways to achieve our political goals than lying, stealing, forgery, perjury, torture and outright treason. The end never justifies the means. It always comes back to bite you in the ass.
Mr. Ruppert,
I'm sure you have *no* relation whatsoever to the wolf-in-sheep's-clothing Mike Ruppert of From The Wilderness "fame". In the case that you *are* somehow related, then this disproves the old saw "it takes one to know one", at least where "merciless amateurish attention hounds" are concerned. Oh! The Drama!
All good disinformation is 90% true, and FTW shines as an example of this. Peak Oil is a DeBeers-like artificially engineered scarcity scheme. Purpose? Money, power, control. Depopulation of lower castes from the planet. Manufactured consensus from the "fringe" inward to the nightly news...
But, please forgive me if I impugn you wrongly. If you are not related to Mike Ruppert, you are merely just an obvious one-time shill.
Later.
anybody else nervous about the address being posted? you know how freepers get.
Casey L "Or, heck, the entire Chicago GOP machine."
Like any good, progressive little kid I have been waiting up for Fitzmas, but somebody needs to check out Bill Daley's political affiliation. Because you could park the "entire Chicago GOP machine" in a phone booth on Wabash Ave, if they still had phone booths.
Seriously Fitz's prime defense against 'partisanship' is that he is on the verge of slaming a bunch of Chicago Machine Dem's close to the Chicago Machine Dem's mayor into jail.
Fitz isn't on "our side". He isn't on "their side". He just seems to be a guy that has a serious attitude against people who break the law.
The 1400 New York Ave. address is posted on the special prosecutor's Web site.
You guys are funny. My sources say that there are a few surprises in store before this one is over. Just a few hints:
1. Rove is a genious, too smart to be caught in this trap, unless of course this is his game and others are unwitting players.
2.Fitgerald is not a non-partisan, rather he is a republican, of course so is the evil genious Rove.
3.Seems to me the CIA, The Wilsons, and the Mainstream Media may end up indicted before this is over. Just need to get past the indictment phase and allow the hearings to begin.
4. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE EVIL ROVE
Hey! Maybe someone out of the VP's office could hire some people recommended by Ahmad Chalabi to break into the new office space and plant bugs.
No, no. That's been tried before.
It seems to me that the office space is necessary to try the case if he is the one in charge of trying it.
I don't believe the letter authorizing his investigation had anything about uncovering the conspiracy to lead us to war, although it would be great if he somehow brought the whole administration down, I just don't think they were that sloppy to let him in on those secrets.
That link of Andrew Ian Murphy's is pretty gross unless you enjoy Rotten.com. And at least at Rotten, you're forewarned.
Mike W.,
Are you giving odds? Are you taking bets in US dollars? Show me the money.
This could be a great opportunity for the transfer of wealth from the Bush Believers to us "guys."
CNN reports that Fitzgerald's office says there will be no announcements today.
MIERS JUST STEPPED DOWN FROM THE SUPREME COURT NOMINATION.
Timed to obscure in part the Fitzmas celebrations?
The momentous occasion that you have looked for to start the changes has arrived. The last few days of this week should see developments that will tell you in no uncertain terms that there will be no stopping the plan to remove your last cabal. Now see the events gather pace as people learn the truth about their government. Their support will fall away except for the diehards who will always follow their political beliefs regardless of any other considerations.
It will not be long before the news of the indictments becomes widespread, although at present it is not publicized that your top officials are on the list. The media are torn between getting out a good story, and for political reasons trying to ignore what should be the most sensational news that has come their way for a long time. The floodgates will open once the serious nature of the indictments becomes known. You have to remember that the vast number of people have little knowledge of the covert operations that have been taking place.
BIG WIN FOR BUSH; MIERS GONE; HARD RIGHT A'COMIN' ON STRONG NOW. CULTURE WAR WILL BE IN FULL EVIL FLOWER. THE DEPTH OF EXTREMITY TO THE RIGHT OF THE NEXT NOMINEE WILL COINCIDE WITH THE EXTREMES TO WHICH FITZ GOES FORWARD. WAR.
Rove is trying to ruin our Fitzmas!
I have said it before - this indictment announcement rumor is bad dope. Such are ueber-tips on blogs ...
Lemme see, when Fitz announces his indictments, Bush announces his new extreme right SC nominee to negate any Lefty glee. Indictive of Vindictive. Indictments tempered by Janice Rogers Brown's nomination. Rove's Revenge. Just let's hope they could never find a nominee as repugnant to counter-balance what is coming at them from Fitz.
Ya gotta remember, we are dealing with Evil incarnate.
All the way from Australia,Steve..Get well soon!(perhaps you feel today like Rove and Libby will fell tomorrow !
Extension is not the word I would use here. I think we are looking at expansion into the crime they were really covering-up, deceiving the Poeple and Congress into allowing a war of aggression, a war crime, in and of itself. The very existance of WHIG and the statements being made by its membership and its benefactors, Bush and Rumsfeld, makes it impossible to ignore the conspiracy Fitzgerald is wanting to look into.
Grand Hat tip to ya, Steve. Take very good care, and get well soon.
He's going for the Big Enchilada! Damn, I hope he has got bodyguards. Hell, I'll volunteer!
Yeeeeehaw!
Uh, that's Southern for "Far out".
I sincerely hope that the cosmic enema of peak oil becomes a priori, and holds as much intensity plus focused attention, as this "League of Evil Gentlemen" has/does was and is. To all our good people of the earth, "time nor tide wait for no man" getting ourselves self sufficient with sustainable energy is arduous and expensive. Think about rain harvesting, solar, wind and water, and mostly think about the scary reality of agriculture without petroleum products. The government will collapse of its own accord once we understand what the real cover up is and it is peak oil. All this other insanity is simply the same ole smoke and mirrors. Should we all, each and every one stand up and scream no more tax dollars because we need our own $$ to prepare ourselves, family, friends and fellow brothers and sisters, for a pre-modern, post-petroleum world.
Whoa.

He was not responsible....he says....but, he is
really preturbed about this Fitzgerald investigation.....hee hee....!
just a thought... fitzgerald's next case is Enron. that could explain the need for more office space.
hope i'm wrong.
You are all liars and un-American as the day is long. Why can't you all see that this is just another Democratic left wing ploy to divert attention away from the sins of Bill Clinton. If Bill Clinton hadn't so thoroughly trashed the Office of President of the United States of America, President Bush could have his war on terrorism without all these darn distractions. So, go take a Prozac and leave us alone.
Is it so wrong to dream of Cheney in leg-irons?
Huh, Biloxi, the dollar is oil based, as opposed to gold based.
Remember what happened when the price of gold was no longer fixed at $35? With peak oil, there will be more dollars than oil, so as the reality that there was more dollars than gold led to $800 gold, before they started dumping Fort Knox on the market, where will the price of oil go to? How long can they dump the strategic petroleum reserves?
After tomorrow more will be clear. And after a year, even more. The Smirky Administration will limp through to January 2007, no matter what. In that time we will see it all : spin, cover-up, denials, talking points, retribution, remorseless clinging to power. Expect an expansion of The War to move all of this to page 34. Syria, Iran, to infinity and beyond! -- with the cornered Smirky at the contols, DWI again on power and revenge, bitterness and payback. Look out. These are the happy days, but don't mistake them for fixing what has been broken. They were reckless before. They will show no compunction to sacrifice us all. THEY themselves are Rummy's "dead-enders," and they will think nothing of bringing us all down if they are going down. Their biggest crimes are yet to come. Party on, but it will get a lot more serious before we are through with this, the most corrupt regime to disgrace the name "American." Lord have mercy on our souls.
How did Bill Clinton trash the Office of the President? Was it creating millions of new jobs in the United States? Was it lowering crime rates to an all time low in the United States? Was it lowering taxes AND balancing the budget? How it leading the United States to be best economical boom in the country's history?
Oh and in case you say anything about lying under oath I can only remind you he was found NOT guilty of those charges by the Senate.
were dollars
Think not,
This crew is history. Along with the middle class dreams they so effectively parodied.
Clinton "TGE" did not create any jobs.
Actually BC was a bit like JK... he raised taxes before he lowered them.
It's a terrific scoop - but other than trackbacks, it doesn't seem that anyone else has run with it. Why not? If it's true, it's the biggest scoop since...well, since the post saying that indictments were filed Wednesday and were to be disclosed on Thursday.
I hate to beat up on a guy who's flat on his back - but I'd really like to see some sort of follow up on this, explaining, at the very least, why no one else has run with it.
Fly on the Wall -- thanks much for this. It was a good scoop until it turned out to be faulty. I have just posted a retraction as my two sources on this story both had story wrong and called me to retract and modify their understanding.
I don't get a lot wrong in my reporting -- but sometimes do. And I believe in being forthright as quickly as possible.
So, see latest post.

That, or an earthquake or hurricane.
There are no coincidences.
In the intel world, six degrees of separation become three, and nothing is..as it appears to be.
Long Live Fitzgerald. Go G men, Go.....
Maybe, just maybe Fitz is sticking around to really investigate the 911 situation. Even though I'm not a conspiracy theorist, something is just not right about the entire arc of the Bush upper cadre. We're dealing with a vice-president who engineered the American energy policy in secret, an Attorney General who ignores the Geneva Convention, a President who doesn't read yet has the media afraid to ask probing questions. These are the politics of fear and I believe that this administration will do anything to preserve their right to run, rather than lead, our nation
If you visualise a white light around the whole investigation, wherever it may lead, to clean up wrong human relations you will have created a form for the protective water devas to animate.Humans have imaging capacities, devas have life giving capacities to those images but no power to form images except at soul level and above. If the image maker's heart is sincere then a like quality of deva life substance will follow.
Feel better Steve and good post.
You know it's really to bad that Fitz coulden't clean all of the thives and crooks out of Washington, but then, who would be left, the place would be a freaking ghost town !!!!!!!!
BWAHAHAHA!
Short of staging a 'terrorist' incident to suddenly cause distraction (and I wouldnt put it past these guys)
then to a-prison theyll be a-marchin.
Rove, Cheney and Libby had better learns fast NOT to bend over in the showers...
The rest of the story is Fitz could CHARGE bush and his pals with fraud under title 18 sec 371 USC.* It calls for penalties for fraud against the US. The WMD/Yellow Cake fabrication and the cover-up around it should be enough to indict for conspiracy to commit fraud!
Cheers
