Late Night Coffee in Jerusalem

Share / Recommend - Comment - Print - Saturday, Mar 11 2006, 4:45PM

Just in case their are any political blog junkies in the neighborhood, I'm working late tonight at a very cool cafe/coffee shop in Jerusalem names Tmol Shilshom. I'll be here late.

I've already been engaged by some very interesting writers here on questions of US foreign policy, Hamas issues, and the brewing mess with Iran.

One thing I would like to know is whether Israelis feel safer or less safe because of the way Iraq has evolved. Given that one of the reasons for the invasion was to remove a threat to Israel.

bob h -- nearly all the people here in israel i have met are on edge because of iraq. they are distressed that america is bogged down there and are certain that iran has been emboldened by the sense of our limitations. folks have a 'wait and see' attitude about hamas and are much less stressed at this point than i expected. most israelis i have discussed this with have a 'peace through strength' posture -- but they want to negotiate with Abbas. They think that their own leadership has been unimaginative and has missed many opportunities to move forward -- particularly after arafat's death.

more soon,
