America has slipped to 20th position out of 163 countries in Transparency International's Global Corruption Index.

We may not have seen him around for a while but Tom DeLay was one of the chief architects of the deepening structural corruption of American politics.

The fact that the Dems probably won't pick up 50 or 60 seats tomorrow is largely because of the kind of gerrymandering DeLay engineered in Texas.

Don't foget DeLay and his pals when you are rewarding or penalizing with your votes tomorrow.

If Nancy Pelosi becomes speaker, she'll make history and come the closest any woman has ever been to the presidency. Cool! Think I'll start sending cheney bacon egg and cheese sandwiches, and for george, maybe a carton of cigarettes and an 8 ball!

Steve, you should also note from TII's report:

Iraq has emerged at the bottom of a survey that measures corruption around the globe. The Corruption Perceptions Index, conducted by Transparency International in Berlin and released Monday, also showed that the United States, the occupying power in Iraq, slipped three notches to 20th place in the survey of 163 countries.

One might also remember 9/11/01 and why did our government just sit back idly and let that tragedy happen? One might also remember Afghanistan and Usama bin Ladin. One might also remember Terry Schiavo. Duke Cunningham? Jack Abramoff? Congressional pages and the Hastert cover-up? Ney? No-bid contracts and civil war in Iraq? Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans? 655,000 slaughtered innocent Iraqi men, women, and children? Abu Ghraib? Bagram Air Base? Valerie Plame? So many disgraceful names, faces, and places. How about "stay the course"? How about treason, treachery, and the death of democracy in America?

Note to History:

With the excruciating debacles of '02 and '04 fresh in their fevered brains the Left were faced with the very real possibility of Whigging and Bull Moosing their way onto the ash heap. The expected reaction from this observer was the fracturing of one entity into a sleek, slimmed down Socialist Juggernaut free to spend Sorosian, Moveonian funds at will.
But I was wrong.
Rather, they decided if you can't beat em at the polls, you have no message, and your solution to every problem is not to have one, and you have the media (ala Goebbels) at your beck, they're gonna take over from within (Dean) and demonize anything that smacks of GOP heirarchy.
From the POTUS to the guy who sweeps up, everyone has been lied about. And then you refer to the lies as gospel, cuz we heard it before, it's gotta be true.
There is one exception, not because of the character found within, but because of the color of their skin. They get a pass. Condi and Colin. Now that 40% of the Democratic voting base is African-American.
Everyone else is fair game.
Neocon becomes a term of hate. Cheney, by any independent analysis is a superstar of public service, becomes Hitlerian. Rumsfeld, a stalwart in this new mellenium of terror, becomes the new Goerring. Then Rove, who's too important and too
smart to take down, and who will prove it again tomorrow.
And DeLay. Corrupt? His only crime is being a Republican.

No, the fact that the Dems probably won't pick up 50 or 60 seats tomorrow is largely because of people who, despite professing an abhorrence of everything the Republicans have done, will vote for their republican candidate anyway, because "he's not like all the rest of those republicans- he's a nice sensible man". Sorta like Chaffee.

Perhaps add to this list the attitude so elegantly rendered by the "Finest" post in all of its base glory.

11-6-06: Ohio professor facing retaliatory (criminal) charges for asking to see vote totals
California's Stephen Heller, one of the most courageous citizens in the country, is being prosecuted criminally, facing up to five years in prison for allegedly leaking important evidence from Diebold. You may have seen a reference to this evidence in the HBO documentary, Hacking Democracy, in the scene where Diebold claims to have fixed problems, but the "Release Notes" show that nothing was corrected. Stephen Heller is facing brutal retaliation, and he very much needs your continued help. (See below)

Today we have a new victim of enforced secrecy in elections: Ohio's Dr. Victoria Lovegren, who you also may have seen in the HBO film ("Your in trouble," she admonishes Cuyahoga as they move to buy Diebold). Dr. Lovegren has been notified that she may face criminal charges for attempting to document the precinct-based vote totals tomorrow. Lovegren runs "Ohio Vigilance" ( http://www.ohiovigilance.org

It terrifes me that such ignorant assholes are undoubtedly streaming to the polls tomorrow.

God help us.

Please don't put up a picture of Delay again...I can't stand bugs of any kind, I can't even stand to see one, and every time I look at Delay all I can think of is a dirty cockroach.
