Clemons, are you doing smack or are you color blind? McCain's website looks like a f*****g deceased commemoration card that they dsitribute at funerals. Perhaps he was channeling when he agreed to use those heavy combinations of black and black and black and white and decided to just make the announcement early for the state of his campaign.

Out of the 3 sites you mention, Obama's site is by far the best in it's creative adaptation of Web 2.0 concepts and functionality. His site isn't just brochureware and static "join our team" forms. Instead he's creating a community where potential voters and supporters can build their own space, find information that's meaningful to them and participate in the site. More importantly, from a marketing standpoint it gives participants a reason to return the site because they can interact with it. Smart move on his part.

A grayscale Web site eh? I hear he just got color TV put in his home too. Gray is cool, but not for Web sites. The youngens like color and lots of it, the old fogies can't distinguish enough contrast to without color information to easily navigate. It's a rather poor design decision in my view. The only thing I like about it is it's not red, white and blue.

When is Steve going to give some exposure to people that REALLY ARE concerned with representing the interests of the American people, instead of providing free advertizing for these posturing bastards like McCain? Big deal, he has a glitzy website. Does that make him a better statesman? More patriotic? Is it gonna get us out of Iraq sooner?

Has anyone else noticed Steve's complete silence about what "conclusions" were reached at his Iran conference? I am particularly intriqued by what Donnelly may have had to offer, being as he is an AEI officer, as well as a PNAC member. Was I right Steve, were the talking points offered by Harman and Donnelly straight off the AIPAC website?

McCain is going absolutely nowhere in the Republican primary. I will eat my shoe if he is our nominee. The hates him on so many issues. He is not raising money. He is old and feeble. He is sucking up to the religious right and they know he is just as much a phony as Romney is.
Guiliani is in much better shape than McCain. The base hates Guiliani, too, but they have been hating McCain longer and with more intensity than their dislike of Guiliani.
McCain is a marshmellow about to be dropped in the vat of acid of the Republican primary. He is the most over-rated politician since ... Hillary Clinton.

Alot of black on the web page which is an apt coloring of his campaign so far. Dead in the water.

The Repubs have no candidate. McCain's over. Guiliani has a political expiration date of about 9 months (former Dem, controversial Vietnam draft problem, 3 wives, pro all those controversial social issues, you name it). Romney has the appeal of a soaked cat.

It will be fun to watch.

i believe this is an overhead expense comment necessary to keep this blog's communication networking "hook sources" on the ready for whatever. I presume Steve is refreshing his bona fides hence the admiring comment about senator Mc Flip Flop's web site.

Reading Steve's blog is an educational must read for communication forum director aspirants.

Frank -- smart post, but really, I do like McCain's site. I posted on Obama's when it was a bit more rustic and suggested he needed to add some drama and complexity to the campaign site. Shortly after, he did. I looked at Kucinich's site; Richardson's site, Biden's site -- and they are not as slick, although Biden has some excellent designers.

But my comments on McCain's outreach to bloggers and the "Undecided?" section were very impressive -- and the professional look.

Hillary Clinton's site was damned impressive from day one.

That's all this is -- a reflection on a website.

With respect, Steve, it's not going to work to say, "That's all this is -- a reflection on a website" and expect commenters to stick to that topic.

For the life of me I cannot understand why someone as smart and knowledgeable as you gives air time to John McCain the way you do. I doubt if there is a less principled policitican in the U.S. He will say anything to suck up to the interest group du jour. He practically defines "panderer".

And my instinctive reaction to his web site is that it is designed to appeal to military types. period. I found it a giant turn off.

McCain is an ardent backer of Bush Iraq policy and would continue the US occupation of Iraq to 2012 and beyond. Mr Keating 5 is just as corrupt as the WH bunch that is currently running our country into the ground.

from a design point of view, McCain's webmasters know their primary audience, probably older folks with smaller screens. His site will show off his whole page on a small screen, which a LOT of people like. Whereas Hillary and Obama's sites are cluttered, aimed at folks much more comfortable with negotiating websites and able to find what they want.

From a web person's point of view, all of them have hit their target audiences. (note that I am only speaking of design, not actual content; unfortunately if folks don't feel visually comfortable with the site, you lose them immediately.)
