Barack Obama tells Iowans: "Nobody is Suffering More than the Palestinian People. . ."

I just came across an interesting letter sent to presidential candidate Barack Obama by over 100 Iowa Caucus participants from 28 different cities.

I did not realize that the oldest mosque in North America is in Cedar Rapids. It's a good letter -- calling for Obama to share more about his vision of how to achieve a Middle East that has the states of Israel and Palestine living side by side.

no doubt, he'll be pilloried by AIPAC and its mouthpieces for this.

"Nobody is Suffering More than the Palestinian People. . ."

Yes, and a lot of people who like it that way are going to scream bloody murder.

It's bad enough he used the phrase "Palestinian people." All good Americans know there isn't any such thing.

I think someone posted this yesterday but it is worth a look at:

By "all good Americans," I presume Grand Moff Texan, talking about himself, of course, means "all ignorant Americans." My suspician is the GMT attends some white trash strip center "church"--otherwise known as a fundamentalist hate factory--and thinks that Iron Age book of fantasy tales called the "Old Testament" is literally true. GMT: Put the white sheet back on the bed; stop getting your news from Rush; and, please, please, take your 1977 El Camino off the cidar blocks in your front yard. I know your 13-year-old wife thinks it's cool, but until you graduate from the 6th grade, I don't know what you have to add.

Here is my new web page about Hillary: www.1984ArkansasMotherOfTheYear.com
I have over 200+ books, DVDs, VHS, CDs and cassette tapes on Hillary and Bill. I think that Barack OBAMA, John Edwards, Bill Richardson or Dennis Kucinich would make MUCH better presidents.

When you go to my web page, click on the first article to the left, titled "Hillary and Bill: a Lifetime of Violating People" and you will learn a TON about Hillary.

[note: my web page is still under construction and I need to add an intro paragraph, but that is minor]

Matthew, take a good look at all of GMT's post again (and if that doesn't convince you, visit his/her blog). I think you'll find she or he meant "good Americans" ironically.

Matthew -
Rob Cottingham's recommendation is seconded. You will discover you've embarrassed yourself through the public expression of sheer prejudice. Look deeply before judging harshly.

Posted by Winnipeger, Mar 20 2007, 2:18PM - Link

that was completely unwarranted, matthew.
but let me get this straight, you condemn GMT's perceived hatred by spewing more hatred?!

thomas fuller said it best: "He does not believe who does not live according to his belief."

It might be a good idea for Steve to suggest something of the context of Sen. Obama's remarks, rather than just quoting a letter to him. I note the views of this group of Iowa Democrats, but they really don't tell us very much about Obama's own.

Posted by Matthew, Mar 20 2007, 3:41PM - Link

To all: Grand Moff Texas struck me as another Robert Morrow clone. If you read the Jerusalem Post or Ha'aretz like I do, you will find many posters who claim "Palestinians don't exist." Sometimes you get tired of the irony....

Posted by yahaddasayit, Mar 20 2007, 3:57PM - Link

From just a glance at the list I see we have Iowa's three major universities, the most populous city(by far), and the mosque congregation covered. Plus someone must have relatives in Muscatine. Now, except for the mosque members, may we hear from the real Iowans?

Posted by Matthew, Mar 20 2007, 4:04PM - Link

"Real Iowans" as distinct from Mosque members?

Posted by yahaddasayit, Mar 20 2007, 4:43PM - Link

Matthew,
I guess it's not your day. I believe the sentence would be read "other than" mosque members. I meant to differentiate between native Iowans and academics and the urban downtrodden. Just nudging to a DLC position-where I wouldn't want to be, but then I wouldn't want to be a Democrat, either.

This letter is good....an indication that some are coming from behind the curve.

They have to pentrate congress though (or throw them out, which is my choice) to effect any change on this Israeli fetish.

Again, Israel's interest should have nothing to do with US elections, at best Israel should be discussed as what it is, a country that is a foreign policy problem for the US, nothing more.

Get rid of AIPAC'ers and Israel will go back to it's proper place in US concerns.

GMT was just being snarky...humorous...like you he has probably seen the constant refrain from the Lukid sheep that Palestine and Palestines don't really exist and was just jabbing at it.

I concur with you absolutely. GMT was being sarcastic.

Posted by Matthew, Mar 20 2007, 5:42PM - Link

Carroll: You're right about GMT, I suspect. But when you see how the false Likud view of history denies the obvious--like living human beings actually existing!--it gets a little difficult. It only takes a few decades to go from denial of humanity to genocide. Better to nip it in the bud as soon as it turns up.

I agree and understand completely what you are saying....It makes me crazy when people try to rewrite history and inject their myths instead of the facts. And no one tries harder to do that than the right wing zionistas. Those people are beyond hope, they are like cult members, factual history means nothing to them. However I doubt they will ever be able to take over the National Goverment archives of the UK or other countries where the records of the actual history of Palestine resides. So let the koolaide drinkers talk to themselves...you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink as the saying goes.

But GTM really was making fun of them as the loonies they are, so actually you should thank him.

Interesting, thanks.

I don't know about Obama but one thing I found interesting was this..:

"That’s the way he comes to policy: What’s your story, and why do you tick the way you do? ..."

..because I myself think that many poeple who make policy are often ruled by their own personal experience, emotions, and so forth. Some for good, some for bad. And two people can have the same experience and one will come out the better for it with a universal human perspective and the other will come out a selfish asshole seeking to revenge his personal greivences.

Carroll wrote "two people can have the same experience and one will come out the better for it with a universal human perspective and the other will come out a selfish asshole seeking to revenge his personal greivences."
Exactly. It's not the event but our individual perception of it that often determines whether an experience/event is "good" or "bad".
A "new" concept has emerged based on this old knowledge-it now referred to as "reframing" an experience.

Amen, Mr. President Obama. Amen.

We need clean elections and open debate on all issues, especially foreign policy. The president should not be chosen by lobbies.
