The author has a degree in veterinary nursing and lived in France once in the last 20 years. We should probably take this article pretty seriously.

"The prime tool for recruitment of Western youth into the Jihadist movement is the Internet where you thought exposure to pornography was the worst thing your child could run into."

- Wow, that's some bad writing right there. Creationist syntax!

"Lately, I've been thinking about the rise of radical Islamist ideology in the West ..."

- Yes, I thought I smelled something burning.

The solution to the danger of exposure to radical Islamic ideology is to indoctrinate our youth in radical Christian/conservative ideology, right?

Fear is the great deceiver. As are those who use it to promote their own power.

Posted by Dan, Mar 05 2007, 11:14AM - Link

Yeah, uh that article is replete with fear-mongering. I wonder why the author doesn't mention any of the myspace accounts of white Christians who spew forth hate and violent words towards Muslims and Arabs? Does the author think that that sort of hatred is okay, because, hey at least they are Christian, right? If hatred comes from Christianity, it's okay, because at least Christians believe Christ is divine. Poor Muslim saps think he was just a prophet.

Seriously, Mr. Clemmons, this link was disappointing for your caliber. It is one thing to protect children from hatred, but wholly another to protect them from one kind of hatred without speaking harshly of another kind of hatred all around them!

oops, sorry for the extra "m" in your name.

Nice catch. I stumbled across this site 1 or 2 years ago--and quickly looked away. Feelin' ill. Slick, manipulative--financed by who I don't know. I seem to remember the videos as being particularly stomach-turning. Ick.

Who ends a sentence in a preposition and expects to be taken seriously?

Dan...you seem to be suggesting that Steve is worried about jihadi sites rather than this site. I guess Steve's comments were a bit ambiguous on this point.

Posted by easy e, Mar 05 2007, 12:16PM - Link

With people like Gaffney and Woolsey on FSM's board, not surprising. Sadly, neocons are succeeding in destroying U.S. society.

MP,

My apologies, after looking at it again, I see he's more sarcastic than not. The darn Internet sometimes makes it hard to see sarcasm.

easy e >"...Sadly, neocons are succeeding in destroying U.S. society."

Now what actors on the international stage might benefit from this do you suppose ?

Follow the money always.

Well, that is really disgusting.

I tend to think movements like this don't catch on too well with the majority ...but then you never know what something like this will go. Fear hate and racism is a big industry right now. The first thing that occured to me after reading this is that parents really are the only firewall between kids and propaganda.
I don't know but it seems to me that a lot of parents these days aren't concentrating on developing their children's character as much as they are focused on their social and sports activities.

Yeah. Gaffney (FSM board) is a clue; though I wondered the same.

According to MediaTransparency.org, at least part of FSM funding comes from "The Shelby Cullom Davis Foundation"; is tied to "The Islamist Project"; and/or Gaffney's "Center for Security Policy" [ http://www.mediatransparency.org/recipientgrants.php?recipientID=489 ].

Dan -- I was being sarcastic. Not that good at it -- but thanks to you and MP for the notes,

I've found it interesting that women have been so prominent in the Islamophobia industry. Women like Phyllis Chesler (author of "The New Anti-Semitism") have always been positively enthusiastic in their support for Pipes, Krauthammer, Berkowitz, et al.--

Google reveals that the author is also listed at "Islam Watch," a website that describes itself as "telling the truth about Islam," but which features only the words of Muslims who have left the faith. All of her papers have titles which are critical of Islam. This sort of thing is truly frightening; the worst thing about it is that it has the potential to create sectarian strife here in the U.S. This sentence from her bio should give readers pause:

"She has lived overseas and been intimately involved in the French culture since the Muslim immigrant population emerged in the south of France."

"If we as guardians, educators and parents allow there to be any gray area in our children’s understanding, they become vulnerable to the temptation of Islamic ideology."

Well, that pretty well lumps all them nasty brown Islamic people into one fanatic bundle, doesn't it? It ironic, with all this screaming about anti-semitism these days, its really the Muslims that are recieving the lion's share the widespread bigotry and demonization.

That site might just as well be a KKK site, or something straight out of Reverend Butler's Aryan Nation.

"Half-way down, Ms. Chesler is pictured with Carol A. Taber, who is the founder of "Family Security Matters"."

Oh God. Is she related to that insipid little pissant, Nathan Tabor??

Posted by Giraldus Cambrensis, Mar 06 2007, 4:32AM - Link

My oh my. It looks like Ms MacAllen's comments about the jihadist videos on YouTube and MySpace are more offensive than the videos themselves.

Well, if you enjoy your kids being subjected to calls for death to America, and having them exposed to images glorifying the blowing up of US soldiers, then I can see the need for Ms MacAllen's postings.

She should have warned about the dangers of leftist appeasers such as yourselves. Like Dean Esmay, your commenters seem to epitomise what is worst about liberal leftism.

Of course every child should watch US soldiers being blown up, while some turbanned moron eulogisies over the carnage. It is good for them, inculcating values of criticism and dissent.

And I am sure Family Security Matters must be funded by the KKK. Which would raise the question - which communist state is funding this website? Cuba or Venezuela?

Posted by MP, Mar 06 2007, 11:11AM - Link

"I've found it interesting that women have been so prominent in the Islamophobia industry."

Let's have a little balance here. Many forms of Islam ARE inimical to women's rights, at least in the Western sense. Think about the honor killings for starters. The burqas for a second course. The probhibition against driving or even going out shopping without a male companion. It's not surprising that a lot of Western women have a lot of problems with Islam.

Sounds like she's involved with le Front National and le Pen.

They have to be kidding. Teenagers today are primarily interested in what they've always been interested in-school, sports, fun and the opposite gender!

"Well, if you enjoy your kids being subjected to calls for death to America, and having them exposed to images glorifying the blowing up of US soldiers, then I can see the need for Ms MacAllen's postings."

Oh how predictable. Some pea brained idjit gets on here and implies that we WANT our kids subjected to internet blood guts and gore. Meanwhile, his corporate gods raise our kids on Rambo and Freddy Kruger, and his political heroes slaughter 650,000 innocent Iraqis.

Obviously, in his tunnel visioned and delusional world view, he has completely failed to recognize it is the racism and bigotry that we find objectional on the website.

In truth, a KKK website is far less disturbing than sites such as this "Family Security Matters" site. At least with a KKK site, you know what they are selling, because the hatred and bigotry is offered openly and brazenly. But at this "Family Security Matters" abomination, the bigotry and hatred is clumsily concealed under the guise of concern for our children. It is this exact kind of bigotry, passed from one generation to the next that begets the kind of bloodshed we see between the Israelis and the Palestinians, or the various Islamic sects in Iraq.

I don't know, maybe our kids SHOULD see the carnage that such hatred begets. Then, perhaps, they could learn to truly realize the danger that bigotry, (such as is displayed on this "Family Security Matters" site), poses to society and mankind's hope for a more peaceful and tolerant future.

Theres a huge difference between "having a problem" with some Islamic religious tenets concerning women, and outright religious bigotry, MP. Are you claiming there is no bigotry expressed on the site Steve linked to?

Or perhaps the only bigotry you will admit to being an issue is anti-semitism.

Posted by PeterP, Mar 07 2007, 3:37PM - Link

Billmon wrote something about this on his blog (back when he still had a blog). He noted the rather striking similarities between the archtypical images used by Family Security Matters (home, hearth, adorable, pig-tailed Aryan girls) and the favorite propaganda themes of an extreme right-wing party that became rather famous in Germany during the 1930s.

A few days later, I checked back at the site -- they had abruptly replaced the Aryan family with an Asian one.

But I guess they've gone back to the original concept. When something works, why mess with it?

No...and that was not my point.
