What a great catch! While taking a smoke break at Tucson Electric Power Plant on a quiet Sunday morning, we watched a bobcat for quite a bit. Probably the plant is his territory. In-house personnel said it was a regular!

Last year when I returned to my Ojai home, first thing in the morning, I saw a bobcat on my patio. At first, I thought it was a little dog that had gotten into the yard because all I could see were it's pointy ears above the lower brick wall, but when it heard me, it scampered across the yard and over the cliff. I saw its' bobbed tail and thought it was a manx, but then I thought about it and it seemed too large. She came back briefly the next afternoon and I saw it was a bobcat. That summer when I was away, the person who lives in a cottage here said she came up every afternoon with two little cubs and watched the sunset from my patio. I really must get a new digital camera.

We have many large bird species too. Golden Eagles, Hawks, Condors, Turkey Vultures, Blue Herons. For days last winter, we had a huge hawk perched on a crook of a branch hanging over the cliff. I could see its' silhouette in the distance every sunset. Then, by very weird fluke, the day John Bolton resigned as US Ambassador to the UN, when I stepped into the sunroom in the morning with my coffee, there was the huge hawk right outside my window, perched on an old iron bedstead that I use as a rose trellis. I stood frozen still and we stared at each other for quite a while, then a noise in my driveway spooked it and it flew away. When I turned on the morning news, there was John Bolton resigning.

One Big Hawk down, was the omen of that day for me.

The last bobcat I saw was at Ano Nuevo state reserve in California. We were there on an early morning to go on a docent guided tour of the elephant seal breeding grounds, and as we gathered near a field to head towards the beach, we saw a bobcat roaming in the tall grass.

More recently at Powell Butte nature park on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon we had a similar encounter with a coyote. This was the largest, most well-feed coyote I have ever seen. It was obviously the top of the food chain in the park, since it was out in the middle of a bright sunny fall day.

Wow, so I'm not the only resident of Carson City who reads this blog.

Maybe that bobcast is staring back at the leading democrat, er, weasel.

According to wikipedia, "Certain species of weasel and ferrets, have been reported to perform the mesmerizing weasel war dance, after fighting other creatures, or acquiring food from competing creatures."
