Authentic Theocrat: Max Blumenthal's Expose on Mike Huckabee

Share / Recommend - Comment - Print - Monday, Jan 07 2008, 3:06PM

I don't often link ads, but the language that Huckabee uses in this ad makes it impossible for me to support him. I know many of you probably aren't surprised by that -- but I keep a pretty open mind to various political possibilities across the political spectrum.

Thanks to Max Blumenthal who is one of the finest video journalists in the country right now.

You sir are obviously a horizontal thinker, not a vertical thinker as we in this nation need to be if we are to combat the Evil within us all. God bless.

You know , Steve, I don't think Huckabee is counting on your vote.

If the repug favorites of you east coast types can hang in there long enough, he just might get the nomination

He's going to take the South, Feb. 5 and from his showing in Iowa he stands a good chance of marching through the mid west. If he can do that and there is a big enough group fighting over the rest of the country, he is in. He has as good a chance as any one in the repub. race. There are a lot of working class republicans out there who are very pissed about their government. Huckabee is the only repub. addressing their concerns and being Christian doesn't bother them a bit.

Don't hype this connection now. Wait until he gets the Republican nomination before springing the real Huck on an unsuspecting populous!

Wow. Thanks.

It saddens me to hear Huckabee state that man is essentially selfish, and gladdens me that at least Obama sees man as essentially good.

"Christianity" and the religion of Christ are often two quite different things.

In his recent book on "The Dark Side of the Force" Jack Hirshleifer comments on a 1993 article in the Journal of Economic Perspective that received extensive journalistic coverage. (see the Economist, May 29, 1993 p. 71)

"And violating the self-interest postulate again in Prisoners Dilemma experiments most subjects choose COOPERATE rather than DEFECT. Who is it who turn out to be almost as selfish as economic theory makes out? The answer: only economists and their students!"

Perhaps we need to include those who thirst after power.

"When a pickpocket meets a saint, all he sees are his pockets" -- Ramakrishna

"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness." - John Kenneth Galbraith

Sorry, I think that Max Blumenthal video is tasteless.

Huckabee is a theocrat and he ought to be exposed as such, but that video is a literally gross way of making the point.

Tasteless and gross are about the best adjectives I can come up with here. That and whatever the antonym of "classy" is.

Blecch. I'd be embarrassed to sign my name to that.

Well I didn't need to see this...I have already been thru all Huckabee's positions over at his web site and I am not for him based just on his policies.
Just watching him I don't see him as completely religiously "evil"...he strikes me as someone who "thinks" he knows what is right but when confronted say, with having to kill his son to prove his loyalty to God...he might finch.
Bush Jr. I don't think ever flinched at the idea of someone's death.

Well heck Steve, what do you expect from someone that believes the Flintstones is a documentary?

Posted by TonyForesta, Jan 07 2008, 10:01PM - Link

Christian fundamentalists are no different than jihadist fundamentalists in spirit and practice, though they do align pathological to different books and profits.

Second, - Jeshua ben Joseph was not a fundamentalist. His teaching and way were based on unconditional peace tolerance, and love, and there is no conditions in the unconditional part. He also spoke passionately against and was vehemently opposed to the worship of wealth and money.

Fundamentalist christians are pathological liars, biggots, racists, imperialists, and anathema to every the Nazerine preached and practiced.

I've got to agree that this video seems tasteless to me. While I'm also opposed to Huckabee's views, this video, from its manipulative, melodramatic scoring to its questionable captions makes me more frustrated with its authors than with Huckabee. I'm mildly surprised to see it posted here.

Blumenthal's use of the image of Our Lord Jesus Christ being murdered only reminds us all the more that it was the Jews who murdered Jesus Christ, and it is they who must be brought to suffer in an Armageddon as expiation for their sins that will bring the King of Kings to His Second Coming. Amen.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are so many different varieties of wackjob religious zealots out there. You're a sick puppy, Azel.

I agree with several others about the tastelessness of this video. Blumenthal had produced some informative and effective pieces. This is not one of them. Connecting Huckabee's words with these images undercuts Blumenthal's point IMO. How is this an exposé? Why link to this to piece to support your dislike of Huckabee?

Posted by jackifus, Jan 08 2008, 5:30PM - Link

This video really looks to be a propaganda piece.

It's purpose is less to inform than to incite emotion and associate that emotion with Huckabee.

Steve, I'm curious what language exactly put you over the edge. I'm an independent, non-religious voter. I try to keep an open mind - certainly never judge just by party affiliation, as I've seen corruption first-hand - by both parties.

I tend to be averse to religious talk by any candidate ... I wish *someone* would stand up for Reason ...

But, I see that kind of religious talk from most every candidate... Hillary brings up her faith in disturbing ways ...

I find Huckabee's religious talk disturbing, but there are many many other qualities I like about him. His current emphasis on religion is no-doubt because he's looking to tap in to religious voters during the primary.

What language exactly threw you over the edge?
