Campaigns and the Human Side

Share / Recommend - Comment - Print - Friday, Jan 11 2008, 9:43AM

The human side of John Edwards' life has been clear for a while in the obvious stress of campaigning while his wife Elizabeth deals with her cancer. Hillary Clinton's humanity manifested itself in an usual moment of stress punctuated by a tear. John McCain's personal and political resilience after his experiences as a torture victim are always in my mind when I listen to him.

But on the Obama front -- I want to commend Senator Obama for taking time from a grueling campaign to call and speak to a young man who is receiving cancer treatments. I won't post the name of the person or mention his father other than the dad is a senior member of the Obama camp. Senator John Kerry also called the youth in the hospital. This is not the kind of thing that Obama's campaign or Kerry would want out -- and that makes it all the more impressive to me.

These folks are people -- real stuff is going in in the lives of everyone involved on all of the campaigns. And sometimes that is forgotten. But The Washington Note wants to wish the young man now receiving his first treatments a full and speedy recovery -- and wants to wish all others who have serious issues to manage in their private lives the best in doing so despite the demands of public life and the demanding electoral campaigns ahead.

When I listen to John McCain I always remember the guy kissed Bush's butt after the Bush campaign in South Carolina's 2000 primary told that McCain had an unaccounted for black child in his family that either McCain sired or his wife begot because she was a drug addict. That McCain didn't punch the face of boy Bush every time he got close enough for smearing his family tells me of the kind of hero he must have been at the Hanoi Hilton; a groveling sniviller is likely the true story of his captivity, like the way he licked the boots of Bush all these years because he so wanted to become the big shot hero president. St. McCain would sell his very soul to become president and he has already a long time ago sold out his family for the p-r-e-c-i-o-u-ssss. Despicable old golem.

Well, it will be interesting to see if the "human side" of these posturing fakes prompts any one of them to loudly protest this propaganda horseshit the Bush Administration just tried to pull with this Straits of Hormuz crap.

Or is lying us into another war just one more criminal act that these pathetic "human" cowards are willing to overlook?

Wonderful that Obama took the time for this kid with cancer. A million or so dead Iraqis must be moved by his compassion.

Hey, PissedOffAmerican, if you show compassion to your wife, or, your own child (or, the child of a co-worker) should that compassion be demeaned because you didn't show compassion for the million (bazllion) other humans who deserve it?

Be pissed off, but, think clearly!

Yes.
Let me think who deserves more compassion...huummm....a guy geeting getting the best medical care available with lots of family and friends support...?
Or..
The guy dying in Gaza because he isn't allowed thru checkpoints to get to a hospital and Isr isn't allowing drugs to treat the ill into Palestine?
Or..
Anyone in this country who doesn't have insurance and can't afford medical care because they don't have any political clout.
Or...
Someone dying from the "sanctions" we impose on the civilian population of countries whose rulers we don't like.

Let's see what they do for people who actually need compassion and support.

I give my money to the Humane Society for abused animals, I don't use it to buy presents for my friend's spoiled pet poodle.

This is nothing more than the average person would do upon learning of some friend or associate's sickness. It tells me nothing.

daniel.....

Don't feed me this horseshit. You know better.

Of course Obama is going to express compassion for one of his constituent's cancer afflicted child. Hell, its good press, and its just basic "what we do". Now, have you seen Obama demand that Bush stop this fuckin' lyin' dangerous bullshit, like this Strait of Hormuz PROPAGANDA that he is currently engaged in? I mean, how many children do you think are going to die if this piece of shit Bush lies us into a war with Iran, and these posturing frauds like Obama stand idly by while telling us what great leaders they are going to make?

Save your mewling indignation for someone that is ignorant enough to buy it.
