Wow. I was speaking to some students of Shelly Williams of the Osgood Center at Johns Hopkins/SAIS this morning and just recalled that it was the fourth birthday of this blog.

I'm three days late, but wow -- it's been an incredible four years. Josh Marshall is the one who made this all happen for me -- and I thank him again for nudging me hard to do it. TWN and Talking Points Memo are in discussions about a whole new set of collaborations. More on that down the road.

But thanks to all of you who read, who comment, who constructively point out the lapses in my thinking, and who have been among the many distinguished guest bloggers and semi-permanent bloggers -- particulalry Scott Paul, Sameer Lalwani, Jennifer Buntman (when's her next post damn it!?), Andrew Lebovich, Patrick Doherty and others.

I think I'm going to treat myself to a venti coffee to celebrate. Wow. . .four years and three days.

Seriously, thanks to everyone.

Congratulations, Steve!

And thanks for letting me, a citizen of a distant Scandinavian
country, contribute on an American blog, about issues of concern
for Americans, as well as for the rest of the world during a time
of crisis.

Above all: don`t stop being unpredictable!

Congrats Steve.

Congratulations Steve and TWN.

This is the best blog on the net. It provokes a lot of Yes's! and Oh No's! and is always stimulating and interesting.
I read some other sites but this is the only one I go to every day or almost every day.

Steve,

What an accomplishment you have here in TWN! I know I speak for
many that we are truly in your debt for exposing us to the world in
which you run. It's a genuine pleasure each day to see through
your eyes and seemingly limitless energy the world of politics and
foreign policy and economics that you are engaged with.

A big thank you, and a huge congratulations on your 4th plus
three.

Congratulations on four great years of TWN during some of the worst years for USA. Best wishes that the next four are even better for TWN and USA! You hereby are awarded the gold medal in blogging: "Citius, Altius, Fortius"

This is a great place to come! Thanks for your work! And I hope you don't have to walk TOO FAR to get that Starbucks fix!

Thanks for the four years and congratulations!

We forgive you for those fancy meals with Margaret Carlson.

Wow, that means the Washington Note and James Fallows share a birthday only he's 59 and the Washington Note is 4. (Your both Leos). But despite the age difference, they have one thing is common; Fallows is a great American and the Washington Note is a great American blog.

Steve I checked out the Washington Note's horoscope for the blog's birthday and here's what it said (I'm not kidding),

"LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You are highly observant, but make very idiosyncratic interpretations of what you experience. You have trouble getting people to share your viewpoint, but that shouldn't stop you from pursuing your train of thought."

Happy Birthday to the Washington Note and thank you Steve Clemons!

Happy blogday!

Kos orange looks good on you, steve(/press pass). It's been a while since I've posted there.

Give yourself a birthday gift and find a webmaster who can "remember personal information for next time" and run an acceptable captcha. After four years, you deserve to not have to type in your own name & email addy every time you want to post on your own blog!

Happy fourth. The fifth should be a humdinger.

TWN + TPM = It doesn't get any better than that. Other very bright light is Tom Engelhardt over at TomPaine. Were it not for the internet and these three blogs, much more darkness would still define the American political enterprise.

I am convinced that these three voices matter very much. I would not like to try to navigate current political waters without them.
